Three missing as launch hits ferry
At least three people went missing when a launch hit a ferry anchored at Mawa ghat on Thursday night.
The victims are Shikandar Dhali, 35, son of late Hasem Dhali of Palong upazila of Shariatpur; Manik Matbor, 35, son of Samsu Matbor of Jajira upazila of the same district; and an unidentified Bangladeshi expatriate in Kuwait.
Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan expressed his condolence while visiting the ghat yesterday afternoon.
A Mawa Port official, Babu Lal Baidya, said MV Parvin crashed into the anchored ferry around 7:30pm.
Several passengers were flung into the river Padma, but many of them managed to swim ashore.
