Manpower crisis in rly to be resolved

Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain yesterday said the government has taken initiatives to resolve the manpower crisis in Bangladesh Railway (BR) and undertaken extensive plans to procure new passenger coaches, locomotive flats and tank wagons. The communications minister was speaking at a meeting with the leaders of Bangladesh Railway Shramik League at the Rail Bhaban in the city. He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the ministry to modernize the railway and run it smoothly. He said the proposed Padma Bridge would be a rail-ready bridge and it would make 1.3 percent contribution to the GDP. There would be efforts to add railway lines to this bridge, he added. BR Director General M Belayet Hossain, Road and Railway Division Joint Secretary Farid Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, BR Additional Directors General TA Chowdhury, Habib Ahmed and M Akhtaruzzaman, General Manager (East) MA Taher, General Manager (West) Anhar Mahmud and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
