A Rajshahi court on Sunday sent army member Shahadat Hossain to jail in connection with the Nadira Akhtar murder case of Puthia upazila. Rajshahi 'Kha' region's court of chief judicial magistrate Imamul Ahsan also recorded statement of Shahadat's friend Nasima Begum alias Nazma as a witness in the case. Sub-Inspector Akher Ali of Puthia police station produced them before the court saying that he would submit a prayer for Shahadat's remand later. Earlier on Saturday, Nadira's father Tota Miah filed a murder case against Shahadat with Puthia police station. Tota in the case alleged that Shahadat stabbed his daughter Nadira to death after taking her to Nazma's house from her college at Dhokrakul. Sources in the court said, Nazma in her statement before the court did not blame anyone for the murder. “Our investigation is yet to be completed. The clues we have got so far lead to both that the case might be an act of suicide or murder”, said SM Rokon Uddin, Superintendent of Police in Rajshahi. “There was no other than Shahadat on the spot during the murder and he is denying his involvement. On the other hand, we recovered a blood-stained knife from the victim's vanity bag that raises a question whether she was able to keep the knife at her bag after suicide”, Rokon said. Talking to this correspondent, victim's husband Muhammad Ratan Ali, a grocer, said he married Nadira seven years ago and they were happy with a three-year old son Rakibul Islam. Shahadat and Nadira were school friends and they maintained regular contacts yet after marriage and Shahadat joined army two years ago. “I do not know whether they were having affair beyond friendship”, he said.
