Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon (Bapa) yesterday demanded of the government to prepare a policy to check the use of plastic packaging and bottled products to reduce environment pollution. Bapa also urged to increase tax on import of plastic raw materials and reduce it on glass raw materials. The demands came from a discussion on ''Use of plastic can, bottle and products: Harmful impact on human body'' at Bapa's Lalmatia office. The public and private institutes should use the terracotta, ceramics and glass products instead of plastic products, according to the speakers. The children are the worst victims of the chemicals used in plastic products, which damage child's brain and reproductive organs. ''It also causes cancer and disability among the children''. They also called the government to implement the laws relating to polythene bag ban. Bapa General Secretary Mahidul Haq Khan presided over the discussion while the member secretary of food security, water and consumer's rights committee of Paba, Zahedur Rahman, read out the key note paper. Dr MH Farooque of State University Bangladesh, Sirajul Islam Mollah of Sundar Jibon, Alamgir Kabir of Green Voice, and Ali Hazari of United People's Trust also addressed the discussion.
