HC extends Koko's parole

The High Court (HC) yesterday extended its earlier order that stayed the government decision cancelling the parole of Arafat Rahman Koko, younger son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. A division bench of Justice MA Wahhab Miah and Justice Kazi Rezaul Haque extended the order till disposal of a rule it had issued earlier. The HC on August 26 issued the rule on the government to explain why the cancellation of parole of Koko should not be declared illegal. It also stayed the government decision of cancellation of parole till October 3. Koko's lawyer yesterday submitted an application to the HC bench for extending its August 26 order. Earlier on August 19, the home ministry cancelled the parole of Koko, and asked him to return home by August 31 and surrender before court.
