Robbers loot valuables of around Tk 6.5 lakh in Ctg

Armed robbers looted 20 tolas of gold ornaments and Tk 50,000 in cash and injured the owner of a house in city's Halishahar area early yesterday. Police said a group of five to six armed robbers entered the first floor of Sakina Manjil at Block-B of Halishahar Housing Estate owned by Saidul Islam. They tied the security guard of the building and broke the locks of the main gate and door at around 4:00am. The robbers stabbed Saidul with sharp weapons when he tried to resist. They looted gold ornaments worth around Tk 6 lakh and Tk 50,000 in cash at gunpoint, said Assistant Commissioner Tanvir Arafat of Double-mooring Zone of Chittagong Metropolitan Police. When locals, on hearing the cries of the residents, tried to chase them, the robbers exploded two bombs to create confusion, said Tanvir. Saidul filed a case with Halishahar Police Station in this connection, he said, adding that they are trying to nab the culprits.
