Koko's parole verdict on October 11
The High Court (HC) yesterday fixed October 11 for delivering the judgment on the writ petition filed by Arafat Rahman Koko challenging the legality of government decision to cancel his parole.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court yesterday fixed November 7 for hearing of a tax evasion case against Koko.
An HC bench of Justice MA Wahab Miah and Justice Quazi Reza-ul Hoque yesterday wrapped up hearing on the writ petition of Koko and fixed the date for judgment.
Earlier on August 26, the HC issued a rule upon the government to explain why its decision to cancel the parole of Koko should not be declared illegal.
The court also stayed the government decision of cancelling the parole of Koko.
The ministry of home on August 19 cancelled the parole of Koko, now in Bangkok for treatment, and asked him to surrender before the court.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) on March 1 this year filed the case against Koko on charge of dodging income tax on his income of Tk 52.39 lakh between 2002-2003 and 2006-2007 fiscal years.
The lower court on March 1 issued arrest warrant against Koko and directed police to submit report on execution of arrest warrant.
