Kaiser laid to rest
Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Ataur Rahman Khan Kaiser was laid to eternal rest with state honour at his family graveyard beside his Chandanpura residence in the port city yesterday evening.
Kaiser's first janaza was held on the Ershad Ali High School premises at his village home in Barkhain under Anwara upazila.
His second namaz-e-janaza was held at Jamiatul Falah National Mosque where hundreds of people from all strata participated. The participants prayed for the salvation of Kaiser's departed soul. Kaiser was laid to eternal rest after the last namaz-e-janaza held on his residence premises.
In a brief speech, the speakers said Kaiser was an honest, dedicated and bold politician who worked only for the country in his political career. He was attached with AL during both good and bad times of the party, they commemorated.
Mentionable, Kaiser breathed his last at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) on Saturday afternoon at the age of 71.
Kaiser, an organiser of the Liberation War, sustained severe injuries in a road accident in Ramu upazila of Cox's Bazar on August 28.
After the incident, he took treatment at CMCH and Apollo Hospitals in the capital. He later flew to Singapore to have better treatment. He was admitted to Apollo Hospitals again after he returned to the country and from October 03 he was at CMCH.
He was general secretary of Chittagong south district AL unit for long and served as ambassador in Russia and South Korea.
Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, LGRD and Cooperatives Minister and AL General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, Primary and Mass Education Minister Afsarul Ameen, Land Minister advocate Rezaul Karim Hira, Jatiya Sangsad Whip Mirza Azam, State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak, State Minister for Forest and Environment Hasan Mahmud, AL Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, lawmakers Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Nurul Islam BSc, Abul Kashem, Akhtaruzzaman Chowdhury Babu, BNP Standing Committee Member Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, Jafrul Islam Chowdhury; Chittagong City Mayor M Manjur Alam and former mayor and Chittagong City AL President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, among others, attended the janaza.
