Abul Bashar passes away

Jatiya Sramik Federation Bangladesh President Abul Bashar passed away at Heart Foundation Hospital in the city at 6:45am yesterday at the age of 78. He left behind his wife, one son, six daughters and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death. Bashar was also former president of Workers' Party of Bangladesh, a freedom fighter and a labour leader, an organiser of different labour movements and member of the advisory council of Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS). Leaders of different political parties and labour organisations condoled his death. Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and party Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain, Industries Minister Dilip Barua, Labour and Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain and Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan in separate messages said the nation will always remember Bashar for his immeasurable contributions to the War of Liberation and democratic movements in the country. His absence would be a big blow to the movement for exploitation-free society, they said. They conveyed sympathy to members of his bereaved family and prayed for salvation of the departed soul. Bangladesh Trade Union and Gono Forum leaders also condoled his death.
