Osmani medical college expels 6

Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College authorities yesterday expelled six of its students, also leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), for their alleged involvement in Monday's clash with the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) members on the campus. The expelled are college unit Shibir president Md Nafis Riaduzzaman Badhan, general secretary Sazzad Hossain Shanto, activists Shahriar Hossain, Saifuddin Khaled, Salah Uddin Quader and Shafiqul Islam. The expulsion notice was hung on the notice board immediately after the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the college governing committee. The committee also formed a five-men probe body mandating it to file an investigation report on the incident within three days. Police and Rab teams arrested 28 Shibir leaders and activists from student messes and rented houses in the city's Madina market, Bagbari and Dargah Mohalla areas early yesterday. They were shown arrested in two cases filed in connection with Monday's incident and were produced before the magistrate's court in the afternoon. The court sent them to jail, police said. Rab members also picked up 11 ICS activists from Dargah Mohalla area yesterday. At least 38 students, including 25 BCL men, were injured in a clash between the activists of BCL and ICS over establishing supremacy on the college campus on Monday.
