Hearing against Sayedee adjourned till Jan 4
A Dhaka court yesterday adjourned the hearing till January 4 next year on charge framing against Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee in connection with a tax evasion case.
Judge Mohammad Mozzammel Hossain of the Special Judge Court-3 passed the order following a time petition submitted by the prosecution.
The court also rejected a bail petition by Sayedee's lawyer yesterday after he was produced before it under tight security.
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) filed the case against Sayedee for evading income tax on August 19 this year.
In the case statement, Masuma Khatun, deputy tax commissioner of NBR, said Sayedee, former Jamaat lawmaker, evaded income tax worth Tk 56.45 lakh for fiscal years 2005-06 to 2009-10 and provided false information repeatedly to misguide the NBR.
Earlier on June 29 this year, Sayedee was arrested after a Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against him in connection with a case filed for hurting religious sentiment of Muslims.
Later, he was shown arrested in a dozen of cases including eight filed for killing freedom fighters during the country's Liberation War in 1971.
