Abolish associated bodies
Eminent citizens urge political parties
Twenty-four eminent citizens urged the political parties for real abolition of their associated bodies to fully comply with the representation of the people order (RPO) to establish rule of law and healthy politics in the country.
They also called upon the Election Commission for fully implementation of the law so that various wings of the registered political parties--students workers, professionals and expatriate wings--are abolished.
According to the RPO, the political parties will have to cut ties with such associated bodies to make them free from politics of flunkeyism.
“We hope that the parliament did not include the provision just to pass the law. It's ultimate goal was to eliminate the politics of flunkeyism--otherwise there was no logic to include the provisions,” they said in a written statement yesterday.
The reason behind elimination of the politics of flunkeyism by the political parties is that these associated bodies do not ensure the rights of students, workers or professionals rather they use their main parties as an umbrella to commit violence, extortion and tender manipulation, said the statement.
In the statement they said, “We want to clearly say that we are in favour of eliminating organisations of flunkeyism of the political parties but we are in favour of building up students, workers, professionals and expatriates organisations for their own interest.”
The signatories of the statement are Prof Khan Sarwar Murshid, Prof Zillur Rahman Siddiqui, Prof Muzaffer Ahmad, M Hafizuddin Khan, ASM Shahjahan, Akbar Ali Khan, Advocate Sultana Kamal, Prof Jamal Nazrul Islam, Selina Hossain, Prof Ajoy Roy, Syed Abul Maksud, Prof Dilara Chowdhury, Prof Sikandar Khan, Prof Syed Anwar Hossain, Dr Tofael Ahmed, Prof Mainul Islam, Prof Manzurul Islam, Musleh Uddin Ahmed, Prof Mahfuza Khanam, Ataus Samad, Prof Asif Nazrul, Mohammad Zahangir, Shyamal Dutta and Dr Badiul Alam Majumder.
