HC asks govt not to allow cattle market
The High Court yesterday directed the government not to allow setting up of any cattle market in front of the Shahparan (R) Mazar in Sylhet ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
In response to a writ petition, an HC bench passed the order to keep the highway adjacent to the Shahparan (R) shrine free from traffic jam so that the devotees can offer their prayers smoothly during Eid-ul-Azha.
The bench of Justice Md Imman Ali and Justice Farid Ahmed also issued a rule upon the government to explain within four weeks why setting up of a cattle market in front of the Shahparan (R) shrine should not be declared illegal.
Home secretary, inspector general of police, deputy commissioner of Sylhet, Sadar Upazila chairman and Upazila Nirbahi Officer and officer-in-charge were asked to reply to the rule.
Md Ishrab Ali, a resident of Khadimpur union in Sylhet Sadar, on Wednesday filed the writ petition seeking directives from the HC on the government to ensure that any cattle market cannot be set up in front of the Shahparan (R) Mazar.
Advocate Manzill Murshid appeared for the petitioner.
