The pro-BNP and Jamaat teachers of Dhaka University yesterday said the government has placed BNP and army in a face-to-face situation over emptying the cantonment residence of Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia. ''The government has used army's Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) to provide false information on evicting BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from her cantonment house, and thus set BNP and army in a face-to-face position,'' said Prof ABM Obaidul Islam, general secretary of Dhaka University Teachers' Association (Duta). ''It is condemnable and despicable the way Khaleda was evicted from the house.'' Prof Obaidul, who became a Duta leader from the pro-BNP and Jamaat teachers' white-panel, was speaking at a human chain at Aparajeyo Bangla, DU. Duta Joint Secretary Dr Abul Hasnet, another leader of white panel, said the government has become successful to some extent too, in setting BNP and army in a confrontational situation over the issue. White Panel Convener Prof Sadrul Amin said, ''We are sad to see the way Khaleda Zia was evicted from her cantonment residence.'' ''We don't want such attitude from an elected government and don't want conflict between the government and the opposition…we want to see the government and the opposition working together.'' Prof Sadrul said the government should have waited until the issue was disposed of at the Supreme Court. The teachers demanded a fair investigation into the process of Khaleda's 'eviction' and punishment to the people responsible. Over 75 teachers joined the human chain organised under the banner of 'conscious teachers' community of DU in protest against 'torture' on Khaleda during vacating her cantonment house. Former DU vice-chancellor Prof SMA Faiz, Prof Abul Khair, Prof Amzad Hossain, Prof Laila Noor Islam, Prof Sirajul Islam, Prof AK Feroz, Prof Borhan Uddin, Prof Tahmina Akhter, Associate Prof Lutfar Rahman, and Hosne Ara were present at the programme among others.
