Mob beating leaves mugger dead at Keraniganj
An alleged mugger was beaten to death after villagers caught him when fleeing with his accomplices after shooting two people at Zazirabazar village in Keraniganj on Sunday night.
The bullet victims, land trader Sohrab Hossain, 30, and another villager Mosharraf Hossain, 25, were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) with critical injuries.
Locals and South Keraniganj Police Station sources said three muggers, boarding in a CNG-run auto rickshaw, waylaid Sohrab when he was passing by the Zazirabazar village at around 10:00pm on Sunday.
When he tried to resist the muggers and cried for help, the muggers shot him to the head, sources said.
As villagers came forward hearing the cry, the muggers opened fire on them and tried to flee the scene leaving behind the CNG rickshaw, they said.
Mosharraf was injured in the firing, sources added.
Villagers, however, caught one of the muggers and beat him, leaving him spot dead, they added.
Police said the deceased mugger and his associates could not be identified. A mugging case was filed in this connection, police added.
