Police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the Thursday night's Molotov cocktail explosion on the compound of the chief justice's official residence at Minto Road in the capital. “We couldn't make any significant progress in the investigation nor could we arrest anyone,” said Krishnapada Roy, deputy commissioner (Ramna Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). Police filed a case on Friday in this connection implicating five persons including four BNP leaders but could not ascertain on what ground they have implicated them. Abdul Jalil, sub-inspector of Ramna Police Station, said they implicated them based on intelligence reports. Jalil, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, said they have information that the accused were roaming near Kakrail intersection, Baily Road and Minto Road just before the incident. One of the accused persons is BNP chairperson's human rights affairs secretary Nasir Uddin Asim. He said he landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on that day from Bangkok and left the airport around 7:00pm. The case statement said he was moving around in the area that evening, Asim, a lawyer, told The Daily Star. SI Jalil said they raided the residence of the accused persons yesterday but none was at home. Asim, however, said no raid was conducted at his house. The four other accused persons are: Moazzem Hossain Alal, president of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal; Habib-un-Nobi Khan Sohel, president of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal; Sultan Salauddin Tuku, president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal; and Akhter Hamid Paban, son of BNP Secretary General Khandakar Delwar Hossain. Talking to The Daily Star, Salma Sayed Poly, assistant commissioner (Ramna Zone) of DMP, said they implicated the five persons maintaining proper procedures. She, however, denied talking further as the investigation is on. Despite repeated attempts, DMP Commissioner Benazir Ahmed could not be reached over his cell phone for comments. Two Molotov cocktails exploded on the premises of the official residence of Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque in the capital's Kakrail area around 8:30pm on Thursday. None was hurt in the blast.
