Speakers at a memorial meeting yesterday recalled the contribution of Poet Begum Sufia Kamal. Jatiya Ganatantrik League organised the meeting at Mukti Bhaban in the city marking the 11th death anniversary of Sufia Kamal. Noted lawyer Barrister Amir-ul Islam attended the meeting as the chief guest while Dhaka Mohanagar Awami League Publication and Publicity Secretary Abdul Haq Sabuj, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Managing Editor Azizul Islam Bhuiyan and Awami Olema League President Maulana Ilias-bin-Helali were the special guests. Ganatantrik League President M A Jalil presided over the meeting. Recalling the courageous role played by Sufia Kamal in various critical junctures of the nation, Barrister Amir-ul Islam said she was the forerunner of all democratic movements that later culminated in the War of Liberation in 1971.
