BCL leader shot dead by criminals in Cox's Bazar

A local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) succumbed to his injuries yesterday here a few hours after criminals shot him in Ukhia upazila. The deceased Anwarul Islam Sifat, 31, of Samlapur village in Teknaf upazila was information and research secretary of Baharchhara union unit of Chhatra League. Police said a gang of 10 to 12 criminals tried to stop Anwarul at Chepotkhali while he was returning home around 11:00pm on Friday. Anwarul received bullet injuries as they fired at him while he tried to escape the scene speeding his motorcycle. Locals rushed him to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries at around 5:00am. Hospital sources said Anwarul received a bullet in his abdomen. Abul Hashem, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said the victim's body was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
