Govt files false cases to prevent its fall
Says Delwar
The government cannot evade its downfall by trying to foil the ongoing anti-government movement through persecution, said BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain yesterday.
“Though the government is filing false cases against our leaders and activists it cannot prevent its downfall,” Delwar said while speaking as the chief guest at a special prayers session to mark the 45th birthday of Tarique Rahman, senior vice-chairman of BNP and eldest son of Khaleda Zia.
The current government has evicted our chairperson from her house and kept both her sons out of the country by filing numerous cases, which leaves us with no other choice than to forge a movement for our freedom, he said.
When asked about the possibility of hartals, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir senior joint secretary general of BNP dismissed the speculation saying the government is misleading people by spreading rumours.
Goyeshwar Chandra Roy standing committee member of BNP ruled out the possibility of getting a “no-confidence” proposal passed in the parliament to overthrow the government as the only democratic solution.
“If street agitation during the reign of Ershad was democratic enough then taking to the streets to oust the current government should not be labelled as undemocratic,” he added.
