One held for hill cutting
Police arrested a man on charge of hill cutting in the port city yesterday.
The arrestee was identified as Md Jakir Hossain, 50, son of late Khayer Ahmed Sowdagar, a resident of Jangi Shah Mazar lane of Badurtola.
Sources said a team of police from Bayezid Police Station with the help of officials of Department of Environment (DoE) arrested Jakir from Chawk Bazar area at about 12:00pm.
Later, He was handed over to the environment court that sent him to the jail.
DoE Deputy Director Md Tajaminor Rahaman said Jakir was also previously accused of a hill cutting case.
On charge of violating environment law another case was filed against him on November 11.
