Vocational training for retired army men stressed

President Zillur Rahman yesterday asked the army chief for increasing the vocational training facilities to create opportunities of self-employment for the retired members of the army. Zillur told Chief of Army Staff General M Abdul Mubeen when he called on the president at Bangabhaban. President mentioned that many members of the army go on retirement at the age of 40 or even earlier. “For this, in-service vocational training is very important so that while in retirement they could contribute to their family along side development activities,” he said. The army chief informed the president that the army's winter exercise began on November 28 and different units of 7th Division are taking part in the exercise. He further told the president that a contingent of the army has been working in Satkhira for the welfare of the distressed people who were affected by cyclone 'Aila'. Appreciating the army's role in facing the disasters, Zillur said their presence on the spot after such disasters gives courage to the people. He called for providing treatment to the ordinary people along side the members of the army from the temporary medical centre set up for the army's winter exercise.
