President lauds army

President Zillur Rahman yesterday said engagement of highest number of troops in the UN peacekeeping missions by the country is an international recognition and proper evaluation of the outstanding performance of Bangladesh Army. The president, supreme commander of the army, noted with satisfaction at the army's engagement in the UN peacekeeping missions while he was talking to the formation commanders at the Dhaka Cantonment. The meeting was held on the eve of the Victory Day on December 16. Zillur told the commanders that their main responsibility is to protect independence and sovereignty of the country. Apart from the main task, their engagements in facing disasters are highly appreciated by the people affected by the natural calamities, he said. He said the leadership ability of the commanders depends on how they formulate future vision and implement those with their acquired knowledge and wisdom. “So your main notion would be focused on future vision after performing the routine tasks,” he added. The president expressed his firm belief that the commanders would be successful in providing basic guidelines and dynamic leadership to the Army. He said the present government has taken various programmes for development of the armed forces despite resource constraints. Zillur assured his all out cooperation in ongoing modernisation process of the Bangladesh Army. Chief of Army Staff General M Abdul Mubeen also spoke on the occasion while Defence Adviser of the Prime Minister Major General (Retd) Tariq Ahmed Siddiqui was present.
