Sylhet mobile court jails two stalkers
For the first time in Sylhet, a mobile court yesterday jailed two stalkers for harassing schoolgirls.
The convicts are Shahjahan alias Badshah, 28, a rickshawpuller of the city's Ghashitola area and Shahed Ahmed, 16, an employee of a shop in Baghbari area.
Police said teachers of Kazi Jalal Uddin High School and College caught Shahjahan in the act around 11:00am as the schoolgirls of class nine complained against him on charge of teasing them.
Local Ward Councillor Rezaul Hasan Lodi alias Koyes Lodi handed him over to police. Keeping his rickshaw nearby, Shahjahan used to often harass girls near the school gate, police added.
Locals and teachers of PDB High School at Baghbari area caught Shahed as he was found harassing some schoolgirls of class seven at 1:00pm and was handed over to police.
Executive Magistrate Md Iqbal Hossain started proceedings of the mobile court at the Ambarkhana High School auditorium at 3:00pm, ending at 5:00pm.
The magistrate awarded Shahjahan two months of rigorous imprisonment and fined him Tk 500, in default to suffer 15 more days.
Shahed was awarded one month of rigorous imprisonment and was fined Tk 1,000, in default to suffer 15 more days. Shahed's father Zakir alais Zitu Miah paid the fine.
However, both the accused claimed innocence.
