Hotel, business house fined for polluting St Martin Island
A mobile team of Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday fined a hotel, a business house and a retired government official of Tk 16.5 lakh for polluting environment in the Saint Martin Island.
The mobile team led by Munir Chowdhury, a director (enforcement) of DoE, fined the hotel Blue Marine, Keary Limited and Major (retd) Sohel Rana.
Earlier, in another drive the mobile court destroyed different illegal structures and boundary pillars and seized 4500 metric tonnes of coral stone and five metric tonnes of stone powder on Monday. The court also seized a huge quantity of woods, tiles and sanitary stored for constructing illegal structure.
Mentionable, it is for the first time such a drive was executed in the Saint Martin Island to protect its bio-diversity.
