Mitigate climate impacts soon

Foreign Minister Dipu Moni yesterday called upon the international community for immediate concerted efforts in mitigating the adverse impacts of climate change taking it an issue of justice. Addressing at the Third Bali Democracy Forum, she also urged everyone to face this challenge together before it is too late, before more and more people become marginalised and their deprivation and exclusion give rise to threats to the peace and stability of the entire world. Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yodhoyono inaugurated the 2-day event yesterday in Bali, known as the goddess island. This year's theme is “Democracy and Promotion of Peace and Stability.” Speaking on the occasion, Dipu Moni called for an international order that is peaceful, stable and just where the rule of law set by the charters of United Nations, said a press release received here. The foreign minister urged for reforms in the global financial architecture and of the UN bodies, including the Security Council, leading to the decision making process with these bodies becoming more democratic and inclusive. Delegates are attending the forum from 44 countries, including four heads of state/government, including President of South Korea Lee Myung-bak, Sultan of Brunei Darussalam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, and Prime Minister of Timor Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao. 23 ministers from Asia Pacific region are participating the forum.
