Election Commissioner Sohul Hossain yesterday sought cooperation of all concerned in holding the upcoming municipal elections in Chittagong division in a free and fair manner. Sohul was addressing a meeting on the polls in the division's 19 municipalities, scheduled for January 18 next year. The district officials, law enforcement agencies, and media professionals attended the meeting at Chittagong circuit house. Police and Ansar forces will be fanned out to maintain peace in the voting. Army will work as a striking force in some specific areas while Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) will patrol the polling areas as a mobile force, instead of staying at the centres. Sohul said the present election commission is working very hard to hold every election in a free, fair, and acceptable way. The previous elections held under the present election commission were accepted not only by the country's people but also by the foreigners, he added. Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Sirajul Hoque, Deputy Commissioner Faiz Ahmed and Deputy Inspector General of Police in Chittagong Nowsher Ali were present at the meeting.
