Narsingdi Train Crash
Committee to increase compensation
A three-member committee has been formed to recommend measures for increasing the amount of compensation to be given to the families of those killed in recent train accident in Narsingdi.
Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain directed the committee's formation, to be led by an additional secretary of the ministry, at a meeting in the ministry yesterday.
There is an existing law of Bangladesh Railway to provide Tk 10,000 as compensation to each family of those killed in train accidents.
The committee has been asked to examine on whether the amount can be increased and other facilities can be provided.
The minister ordered to submit a realistic report after reviewing the existing rules and regulations of Bangladesh Railway and compensation rate of neighbouring countries.
