CCC temporary staffs want job regularisation
Contractual workers of Health department of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) yesterday demanded to make their jobs permanent.
A delegation of 129 temporary employees and staff of the health department from Manon Matrishadon went to Nagar Bhaban to submit the demand to CCC mayor. But the mayor was not available at that time.
Shovan Chowdhury, pharmacists and employee of Memon Matrishadon, said they came to the mayor to inform him of their suffering and distress.
The memorandum said, “We have been working at health department of CCC for twelve years. In twelve years we got bonus, education incentive for our children, two increments and pay scale of year 2005.
Though we got most of the facilities from CCC, we could not get our job as permanent staffs.”
Former mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury of CCC appointed 145 workers in contractual basis in 1998, 1999 and 2001 in three phases.
At that time, Mohiuddin assured to make their job permanent within one year. But only 16 workers were made permanent by CCC in the last twelve years.
President of the standing committee on health Nurul Absar told The Daily Star that they had the mandate of regularising 438 contractual employees and staffs according to local government ordinance 2009.
“But here we have a problem because the CCC has a total of 1,410 contractual employees,” Absar said.
