V-Day celebrated in Ctg
People from all walks of life celebrated the Victory Day with much enthusiasm and festivity in Chittagong city as elsewhere across the country yesterday.
The day's programmes began with placing of wreaths at the port city's central Shaheed Minar at 12:01am in honour of the liberation war martyrs.
Mayor of Chittagong City Corporation Mohammad Monjur Alam and countless people along with different socio-political organisations and educational institutions paid the floral tribute at the Minar.
Various cultural, social, and political organisations arranged events on patriotic and folk songs, street drama, recitation of poetry, photo exhibition, and blood donation to mark the day.
Colourful processions were also brought out and discussions and cultural programmes held across the port city on the occasion.
Programmes on Chittagong University (CU) campus began with placing of wreaths at the university's ''Swadhinotar Swarok Vascarjo'' (sculpture commemorating independence) by acting CU VC Prof Dr Mohammad Alauddin.
CU authorities arranged discussion and cultural programmes marking the Victory Day.
