The ministry of expatriates welfare and overseas employment and different NGOs brought out a procession from Ramna. Mosharraf was speaking at a debate competition organised by Debate for Democracy at the National Press Club. Nearly 70 lakh people work abroad, said the minister. “We are planning how to cut the cost of migration and regulate the recruitment process.” Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (Baira) President Abul Bashar urged the government to reduce undocumented migration which he says is enough to destroy the labour market. He also demanded the government soon ratify the UN Convention on migrant workers and frame necessary laws for their welfare. Zafar Ahmed Khan, secretary to the expatriates' welfare ministry, said, “We are amending the immigration law to make it stringent and giving migrants better protection.'' Khan was addressing a news conference organised by Warbe Development Foundation and Bangladesh Ovibashi Mohila Sramik Association with the expatriates' welfare ministry at the National Press Club on Friday.
