The main opposition party, BNP, has decided to accord a warm reception to its chairperson Khaleda Zia upon her return from China on Friday. In the name of reception, the party and its front and associate bodies will stage a showdown of its political strength by gathering supporters from the city and adjacent areas, said the party insiders. Leader of the Opposition Khaleda, now on a five-day tour to China at the invitation of the Communist Party of China, is set to arrive at Shahjalal International Airport on December 24. BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain asked the leaders, activists, and supporters to gather in the airport area by 11:00am that day. “Our leader will return on Friday. Thousands of our party leaders and workers will receive her at the airport,” said Delwar. “They will welcome the chairperson in a disciplined way wherever the law enforcers create obstruction.” Delwar was briefing the media after a joint meeting of the party leaders at BNP's central office in Naya Paltan. He also criticised the government for barring opposition leaders to enter the airport during departure of Khaleda. “When the prime minister goes abroad, no ruling party leader is obstructed at the airport. Why are the opposition leaders being barred?" The BNP leader also alleged that the government is creating chance for the foreigners to interfere into the country's internal affairs by violating human rights and torturing the opposition leaders. He said few developed countries are hatching conspiracy to create chaos in South Asian countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Srilanka. “The government's act can create the same chance to happen the same thing in Bangladesh.” Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Abdul Mannan, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Moazzem Hossain Alal, Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annee, among others, attended the meeting with Delwar in the chair.
