PM adviser hears ulamas' demand
Prime Minister's Adviser HT Imam yesterday held a meeting with the leaders of Sammilito Ulama Mashayek Parishad, a pro-BNP-Jamaat organisation, at his official residence to discuss the parishad's demands over which it called hartal on December 26.
“HT Imam wanted to know our demands. After listening to our demands, he said he will inform us after discussing the points with the prime minister,” Abdul Latif Nejami, a leader of the parishad, told The Daily Star after the meeting.
He said they earlier held a meeting with State Minister for LGRD Jahangir Kabir Nanok, to which yesterday's meeting was a follow up.
Latif, also the secretary general of Islami Oikya Jote (IOJ), a component of the BNP-Jamaat four-party alliance, said if the government realises their demands or gives logical assurance, they will call off the hartal.
Their demands include that madrasa education will have to be considered specialised education.
Muhiuddin Khan, the ulama parishad's chairman, announced the hartal protesting the education policy passed by the parliament recently. BNP had supported the hartal.
AL General Secretary and LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam termed Muhiuddin a “war criminal.”
