Beauty faces uncertain future, needs support
Engineer Kazi Altaf Hossain, killed in Afghanistan by abductors on December 17, was laid to rest at his village Khanpura of Rooppur union in Bera upazila under Pabna district on Sunday night.
A pall of gloom descended the area as the body reached the victim's Khanpura residence at about 9:00pm.
Villagers rushed to the house to have a last glimpse of the victim. After the namaz-e-janaza, the body was buried at the local graveyard at about 11:00pm.
A large number of people including Bera upazila Parishad Chairman Azizul Haque Arzu and local elites participated at the funeral.
Altaf's family has urged the government to give financial assistance to the hapless family.
“Altaf, the lone earning member of his family, went to war-ravaged Afghanistan for livelihood but he returned dead. He left behind his wife Beauty and a two-month-old baby. They are facing an uncertain future,” said Altaf's brother Kazi Habibur Rahman.
“When we received the body at the airport, we got a check of Tk 35 thousand for his funeral. Now we urge the government to help the victim's family. If the recruiting company gives some compensation, it would be very helpful for the family,” he said.
The authorities of Dutch Bangla Bank Limited (DBBL) in a press release yesterday said they will give Tk 5 lakh as financial assistance to Altaf's family.
“The DBBL authorities have decided to give Tk 5 lakh considering the future of the newborn baby, especially her education. The money will be handed over as early as possible,” Md Nazrul Islam, manager of Pabna Branch of DBBL, said.
