Saarc to make progress under Thinley: Khaleda

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday expressed hope that Saarc would make further progress under the leadership of its current chair Bhutanese Prime Minister Jigmi Y Thinley. She expressed the view during a courtesy call on Thinley at his Sonargaon Hotel suit in the evening. She congratulated him for being the Saarc chairperson. As Thinley sought Khaleda's cooperation from her experience as past Saarc chairperson, she said if there is political goodwill, Saarc would definitely step forward to its cherished goal. After the meeting, BNP Vice Chairman Shamser Mobin Chowdhury told reporters that Thinley said Bhutan government and its people are grateful as Bangladesh embassy in Bhutan was set up during the rule of President Ziaur Rahman. Thinley further said the excellent relation between Bangladesh and Bhutan was also made under the leadership of Ziaur Rahman. Khaleda appreciated his government's step to recruit physicians from Bangladesh. BNP Standing Committee Member Dr RA Gani, Khaleda's advisers Reaz Rahman and Sabihuddin Ahmed and her Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan were present.
