Zia, Ershad's regimes 'spoiled generations'
Says Ashraful
Awami League General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam yesterday termed regimes of Ziaur Rahman and HM Ershad "spoiled generations".
He also blamed them for creating the polarising stance in the nation regarding War of Liberation.
He was addressing a discussion prior to a rally organised to observe the 39th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad, a platform of freedom fighters, on the Central Shaheed Minar premises.
Ashraful, also minister of Local Government and Rural Development, said Zia established war criminals in the country by appointing razakars like Shah Aziz as ministers.
BNP continues this trend to this day, he said, adding that the party is now conspiring to save the war criminals from being put to trial.
The government has decided to put a freedom fighter in each of the governing bodies of all educational institutes to depict the real accounts of War of Liberation to the young students, he said.
State Minister for Liberation War Affairs AB Tajul Islam was present as the special guest with Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad President Major General (Retd) Helal Morshed Khan in the chair.
