Dr Shirin Sharmin reelected chairman of CGPAMG

Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, state minister for women and children affairs, has been elected chairperson of the Commonwealth Gender Plan of Action Monitoring Group (CGPAMG) for the second consecutive year. She chaired the eighth session of the CGPAMG in New York on Saturday, says a press release. She discussed how Saarc could be a ground for monitoring women's empowerment in South Asia. Country representatives of commonwealth countries attended the meeting. Bangladesh has worked lots to formulate and implement gender budget, hospital and police station based one-stop crisis centre for women and has recently enacted a domestic violence act, said the commonwealth secretariat at the meeting. Representatives of commonwealth countries attended the meeting.
