46 houses, 42 shops gutted
At least 46 houses and 42 shops were gutted in separate incidents of fire yesterday, the day before and on Thursday.
At least 13 shops and 3 jute godowns were gutted in a devastating fire early yesterday at Pukuria Bazar of Bhanga upazila in Faridpur.
Fire service men and locals said the fire originated from a kitchen of Mojid Chowkider adjacent to Pukuria Bazar at about 12.05am and soon engulfed the adjacent shops and jute godowns, reports our correspondent.
The fire damaged properties 400-450 maunds of jute, groceries and valuables worth about Tk 20 lakh, claimed the owners while the fire service men estimated the loss at Tk 10 lakh.
In Savar, a garments storeroom and 10 houses were gutted in separate fire incidents at Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) and Norshinghapur areas yesterday morning.
DEPZ fire service sources said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at the storeroom of SBC garments factory at BEPZA building at about 9.15am.
In another incident, 10 houses of the 'Sramik Polli' at Norshinghapur under Ashulia PS were gutted by fire yesterday morning.
The extent of loss from the fire could go up to Tk 10 lakh, fire service men said.
In Patuakhali, at least 26 shops were gutted in a fierce fire which broke out near Nolkhola bus stand in Dasmina upazila early Friday.
Locals said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a tea stall at about 3am and soon engulfed the adjoining shops.
At least 10 people sustained burn injuries while trying to put out the fire.
The affected shops owners claimed that cash and valuables worth over Tk 90 lakh were gutted in the blaze.
In Narayanganj, at least five people were injured in a fire at Masdair area on Thursday. The fire gutted 36 houses, three shops and three godowns.
The fire that originated from a jute godown of one Mamun and burnt dwelling houses, shops and jute warehouses, reports our correspondent.
The affected people claimed that they lost property worth Tk 50 lakh.
