Fresh probe into Udichi murder case demanded
A human chain was formed in the city yesterday demanding reinvestigation into Jessore Udichi murder case and exemplary punishment to the perpetrators of the carnage.
Barisal unit of Udichi Shilpi Gosthi organised the programme in front of Ashwani Kumar Hall on the 12th anniversary of Jessore Udichi tragedy.
Activists of Udichi Shilpi Gosthi Barisal unit and several socio-cultural organisations joined the programme.
On this day in 1999, at least 10 people were killed and 200 others injured in bomb explosions at a cultural function of Udichi Shilpi Gosthi at Munshi Meherullah Maidan in Jessore town.
A rally was also held at the venue of human chain with advocate Biswanath Das Munshi in the chair. The speakers demanded reinvestigation into the case and exemplary punishment to the perpetrators of the carnage.
Mizanur Rahman, Akkas Hossain, SM Iqbal, Sheikh Kutubuddin, Shanti Das, Ashishi Kumar Das Gupta and Tunu Rani Karmaker addressed the rally, among others.
