Eight killed, 48 injured in road accidents
Eight people were killed and 48 others injured in road accidents in Gaibandha, Sylhet, Narayanganj, Chuadanga, and Kishoreganj yesterday.
UNB from Gaibandha reports: Four people were killed and five others injured as a truck rammed a nasimon (improvised passenger carrier) at Boalia in Gobindaganj yesterday.
Deceased are Atiqur Rahman, Faridul Islam, and Abdur Rob. The other person could not be identified immediately.
The injured were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman hospital, and Gobindaganj hospital in critical condition.
The victims, who were all aboard the three-wheeled nasimon, hail from different villages of Gobindaganj.
UNB in Dhaka says: Four people died and three others suffered injuries in road accidents in South Surma of Sylhet, Sonargaon of Narayanganj, and Chuadanga municipality yesterday.
In Sylhet, an elderly woman was killed on the spot and three others hurt in a head-on collision between an auto-rickshaw and a truck on Sylhet-Jakiganj road at Saatmile in South Surma.
The deceased, Farzana Bibi, 70, hails from Masjidpur village of Balaganj upazila.
The injured were taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
In Narayanganj, a woman and her son died on the spot after being run over by a bus on Dhaka-Chittagong road at Nayabari in Kanchpur under Sonargaon upazila.
Deceased are Momena Begum, 35, wife of Iman Ali of Madanpur-Dewanbagh of Bandar upazila, and their son Monir Hossain, 12.
In Chuadanga, a truck ran over Azgor Ali, 50, and left him dead on the spot in front of Vocational Training School and College at Doulatdiar in the municipality area yesterday.
Ali hails from Doulatdiar village.
Our Kishoreganj correspondent adds: At least 40 people were injured as a bus skidded off Pakundia-Dhaka highway and into a pond in Tanaghat in Tarail upazila yesterday.
The injured were taken to different hospitals in the district.
Witnesses alleged that the bus driver, who instantly fled the scene, lost control as he was talking over mobile phone while driving.
