Three tortured for dowry
A housewife, her mother and her sister were tortured allegedly by her husband over dowry at Nagarkonda village of Savar on the outskirts of the city yesterday.
The victims are Kaniz Fatema, 23, her mother Quamrun Nahar, 45 and her sister Lacky Akter, 22.
Lacky was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with head injuries.
Fatema said her husband, Saiful Islam, a bus conductor, hit them with an iron rod and injured them while they were exchanging hot words at her father's house.
She said Saiful had already taken Tk 1 lakh from her father as dowry and demanded Tk 1 lakh more. “He used to torture me regularly for the money,” added Fatema.
Her father Arab Ali said his daughter was moved to his house on Tuesday, as he was unable to give the money.
