Call to withdraw 30-hour hartal
Leaders of an alliance of some religion based political parties in a statement yesterday urged the newly formed 12-party alliance to withdraw their 30-hour hartal called from tomorrow.
The leaders of the alliance Ganotrantik Islami Oikya Jote said Islam as a religion of peace does not support subversive works like obstructing people from moving freely, damage property and creating anarchy.
They said the hartal was called to abuse people's religious sentiments for political gains and urged the parties to call the hartal off and launch peaceful agitation to realise their demands.
Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish led 12-party alliance announced the hartal in protest of dropping the phrase “absolute faith in Allah” from the country's constitution.
The 12-party alliance staged a pro-hartal demonstration in front of Baitul Mukarram mosque area in the city after Juma prayers yesterday and later brought out a procession.
