Sultana Afroz elected FAO body member

Sultana Afroz of Bangladesh was elected a member of Programme Committee of United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for the next two years. The election to the eleven-member committee was held recently at the 142nd council session of FAO in Rome. The committee plays a vital role in formulation, monitoring and evaluation of FAO-assisted programmes, says a press release. Sultana is the Economic Counselor of Bangladesh Embassy in Italy and the alternate permanent representative of Bangladesh to the three Rome-based UN agencies -- FAO, WFP and IFAD. She was elected a member of the committee in 2009 as well. Moreover, Bangladesh was elected as a member of the FAO Council for the next three years during the bi-annual conference of FAO held recently in Rome. The other countries elected in the council from the Asian Group include China, Japan, Philippines, South Korea and Thailand.
