Youth dies due to 'wrong' treatment
A patient at a drug addicts' rehabilitation centre at Uttara in the capital allegedly died yesterday due to wrong treatment and negligence.
Atiqullah Topu, 27, of Bashundhara residential area at Badda was admitted to Crescent Hospital at Uttara sector No 14 for treatment of his cannabis addiction about two months ago.
An unknown person yesterday morning called his brother Wahidullah Dipu from a land phone and informed that the body of Topu was lying in the hospital.
Dipu went to the Crescent Hospital and identified the body. Being informed by Topu's family, police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
Officer-in-charge (OC) Khandaker Rezaul Hasan of Uttara Police Station said they raided the rehabilitation centre but found the centre closed after the incident.
The OC said that they assume though the rehabilitation centre realised money from guardians of the addicts in the name of treating their wards, it does not provide proper treatment and so Topu died.
