10 killed, 25 injured in road accidents

Ten people were killed and 25 others injured in separate road accidents in Rajbari, Rangpur, Tangail and Narayanganj yesterday. Our Faridpur correspondent reports: Three people were crushed under the wheels of a covered van on the Dhaka-Khulna highway at Goalanda upazila in Rajbari yesterday. The deceased are Sabuj Pramanik, 26, Mizan Bepari, 23, and Nazrul Bepari, 22, of the same upazila. The van hit the trio when they were crossing the highway around 7:15am in Goalanda bazaar area. The victims died on the spot. Agitating locals set fire to the van and put barricades on the highway, halting traffic movement. A Correspondent from Rangpur adds: Two motorcyclists were killed as a Rangpur-bound bus of Nabil Paribahan from Dhaka ran over them on the Rangpur-Bogra highway at Gorermatha in Mithapukur upazila at about 9:00am yesterday. The deceased are Noor Islam, 45, and Shawkat, 38, of village Fulchouki, of Mithapukur upazila. Our Tangail correspondent says: Two people, including a woman, were killed and 10 others injured when a passenger-laden nosimon (sallow engine run three-wheeler) lost its control and plunged into a roadside ditch at Mirzapur upazila yesterday. The deceased are Hazera Begum, 40, of Chandpur village, and Barkat Ali, 48, of Parbaria village of the same upazila. The injured were rushed to Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital. Our Narayanganj correspondent adds: At least three people were killed and 15 others injured as a human hauler and a bus collided head-on and both the vehicles fell into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Adhuria of Rupganj yesterday. One of the deceased was identified as Ekabbar Ali, 35, of Narsingdi. The identity of two other victims could not be ascertained immediately. The injured were rushed to different local hospitals and clinics.
