Road safety demanded
Poet and journalist Abul Momen here yesterday urged the government to take necessary steps for the prevention of road accidents.
He was addressing a human chain organised by Prothom Alo Bondhu Sobha in front of Chittagong Press Club.
Students of different schools and colleges and non-government organisation representatives attended the programme, demanding road safety and expressing condolence to families of schoolboys who died in a road accident in Mirsarai on Monday.
Momen, resident editor of the daily Prothom Alo in Chittagong, said inappropriate implementation of laws is one of the main reasons behind road accidents and asked both drivers and commuters to remain conscious in this regard.
Kadam Mobarak High School Headmaster Abu Jahur, Biswajit Chowdhury, also an associate editor of the daily Prothom Alo; poet Quamrul Hasan, Jinat Ara Begum, journalist Omar Kaisar and Chittagong City Corporation Ward Councillor Rehana Begum Ranu also spoke at the programme.
