HC summons Etihad Airways country boss
The High Court yesterday summoned Country Manager of Etihad Airways Ashraful Kabir for explaining the recent incident of harassing and torturing two Bangladesh born women at Abu Dhabi International Airport.
In response to a writ petition filed by Tanzeen Bristy, one of the victims, an HC bench directed Ashraful to appear before it on July 20 for explanation.
On June 28, the two women, who were en route to Canada by an Etihad Airways flight were allegedly harassed by the airline staff at Abu Dhabi International Airport, and were forced back to Dhaka at their own cost over a brawl that sparked due to a fault of a staff.
The bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Justice Gobinda Chandra Tagore yesterday directed the government to form two separate committees immediately to investigate the incident and submit investigation reports within 30 days to it.
Secretary to the ministry of foreign affairs has to form one of the two committees, and the secretary to the ministry of civil aviation and tourism and chairman of civil aviation authority have to form another committee, as per the order.
Petitioner's counsel Manzill Murshid told The Daily Star that the HC bench in the rule also asked the country manager of Etihad Airways to explain why he should not be directed to pay compensation to the victims.
