4 killed, 40 hurt in road crash

Four people were killed and 40 others injured when two passenger buses collided head-on in Gazaria upazila yesterday. Shahidul Islam, 30, of Bhandaria upazila of Pirojpur; Abdul Karim, 65, of Sadar upazila of Feni; Shubhroja Chakma, 42, of sadar upazila of Khagrachhari; and Nilufa Aktar Fatema, 50, of Chandpur district, died on the spot. The injured were rushed to different local hospitals and Dhaka. Officer-in-Charge Arju Mia of Gazaria Police Station said a Dhaka-bound bus of S Alam Paribahan collided with Comilla-bound bus of Basona Pribahan in Baushia-Pakhi point area around 11:00am. Police seized both the buses but the drivers managed to flee. A case was lodged with Gazaria Police Station in this connection.
