Dipu for ties in private sector
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni has called for greater cooperation among the private sectors of the D-8 member states to enhance trade within the group.
She made this call while delivering a statement at the 14th Session of the D-8 Council on Thursday in Abuja, Nigeria, according to a press release of the foreign ministry.
The minister viewed that with a population of over 970 million and a workforce of about 385 million, the D-8 has the potential to take a pre-eminent position in the global economy and achieve an improved standard of living for its people.
In order to attain the objectives of the organisation, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni laid emphasis on enhanced cooperation in the five priority areas, namely trade, agriculture and food security, industrial cooperation and SMEs, transportation, and energy and mineral resources.
Mentioning that a vibrant and dynamic private sector is the driving force for industrial growth, she underscored the need for creating conducive environment for the private sector to flourish through promoting partnership and fostering trust among the stakeholders.
Dipu Moni was leading the Bangladesh delegation to this annual event of the organisation of eight populous developing nations, which was founded in 1997 through Istanbul Declaration.
