Different rights groups yesterday demanded exemplary punishment to sacked schoolteacher Porimol Joydhor who is accused of sexually assaulting a female student. They also demanded removal of Husne Ara Begum, principal of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, for her failure to take proper steps against Porimol. Husne Ara went on a three months' leave on July 14 amid protests by students demanding her dismissal. Manju Ara Begum, an assistant professor of the institution, was deputised for Husne Ara for the three months. The right groups pressed the demands at separate human chains in front of Jatiya Press Club in the city. Teachers, students, guardians, and representatives of different organisations joined the protests. At the programmes, speakers also demanded separate law and proper implementation of the existing laws to prevent oppression and sexual harassment of women. The speakers stressed formulation of committee at all educational institutions, where people can lodge complaints and proper steps can be taken to prevent recurrences of sexual harassment. DU teacher Mahbub Ullah, Chairman of Jatiya Paribesh Manobadhidkar Society Atique Aziz, Swadhinata Forum President Abu Naser Muhammad Rahamatullah, and President of Jatiya Nagorik Sangsad Khaleda Yeasmin, among others, spoke at their respective programme. Porimol Joydhor, a Bangla teacher of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College, Bashundhara branch, violated a class X student of the school at his Badda coaching centre on June 17.
