Financial support for gallantry award winners to increase

The government has decided to increase the financial grants for the gallantry award wining personnel of law enforcement agencies. Monthly financial grants for gallantry award winner freedom fighters of the four categories (Bir Shreshtha, Bir Bikram, Bir Uttam and Bir Pratik) will also be increased. Planning Minister AK Khandaker revealed this plan to reporters following an inter-ministerial meeting held at the home ministry in the city yesterday. He, however, did not ascertain to what extend the grant will be increased but a meeting sources said the grant might be increased at least eight times. Considering present price of essentials, the government took the decision, he said adding, that the hike in the grants will be decided in another meeting scheduled on August 7. He said they decided to introduce gallantry award to cost guard and award winners in Ansar will be brought under the financial grant. Personnel from police, Bangladesh Border Guard, Ansar, Coast Guard and Fire Brigade are given gallantry award for their heroic deeds while discharging their duties. Among others, Home Minster Sahara Khatun, State Minister for Home Shamsul Huq Tuku and State Minster for Liberation War Affairs AB Tajul Islam attended the meeting.
